I'll do my best to make something geared to the recipient's tastes and needs, but we all know the end result can be unpredictable, and maybe it's not quite what they envisaged... and all this applies double if it's a surprise gift!

But recently I was super impressed with one giftee. I'd made him a thank-you scarf as a surprise; I checked with friends who knew him better that the scarf would be welcome, and that the design was to his taste. It was delivered by these friends, and while they reported that it was very well received, I didn't at first get a thank you (though he did thank me much later when we happened to be in touch). That was fine, I know he's not a very social chap (certainly not, as you say, one to extend his joy) and I wasn't offended; I thought he probably liked the scarf, based on reports, and that was enough.

What elevated him to the level of Would Definitely Knit Again was that I later got an email: scarf had been much worn, was dirty, probably shouldn't be chucked in machine, what should he do? Now that meant everything to me. It meant he was wearing it enough to get dirty, and cared about it enough to want to take care of it. That's all I needed to hear. Knit gift success. :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8934812124727792958.post-51873620284116412252011-03-01T05:26:50.766-05:002011-03-01T05:26:50.766-05:00WOW what great reactions to your knits!
